ADA Title III requires tactile characters and Grade II Braille on all permanent room and space identification, with mounting at 48"-60" to baseline depending on door configuration, non-glare finish, 70% minimum light-on-dark contrast, and sans-serif uppercase characters of specific stroke width. The Joint Commission requires consistent wayfinding nomenclature across the campus, evacuation route signage in compliant locations, and code-compliant exit signage. Many states overlay additional requirements for surgery centers (NFPA 101 Life Safety Code) and behavioral health spaces (anti-ligature mounting).
